Digitec After-Sale Customer Service


Digitec i.e. http://www.digitec.ch has very attractive price for electronics items in Switzerland. These attractive price has major drawback that their after sale service is worst than any service I have seen. Just as an example I will here describe a case where they have sold a defective camera to me which now even  Digitec has accepted it and I  have to go through lot of mental pain and have lost lot of time just to get my  money back from Digitec and Digitec instead of giving me proper customer service has tried to make money out of this.

1.  I had plan to visit Legoland Germany on 18/19 June 2011. So I purchased Canon Powershot SX230 HS camera for 309 CHF from Digitec on 15 June at 7 PM as shown below.


  Camera Pentax added and removed from order but it was never purchased.

2.  In evening on 15 June I found that quality of camera is bad , infact worst than my 7 years old camera.  To test and compare  I have taken photos  from  this  new  camera and  from  my old camera. My old camera has much good photos than  new one. SO in morning 16 June at 9.00 AM I went to Digitec shop and said that quality of this camera is not good so may be it is defective. So either give me other piece of this camera or  give Nikon D5100 for 900 CHF. They told me that they do not have other piece of Canon Powershot SX230 HS and they can give me Nikon D5100. But for current Canon Powershot SX230 HS  they can now give me  back  only 256 CHF as  the packing  is open. Or I have to wait 3-4 weeks so that they will send it back  to canon  and once canon will confirm that it is defective only then they can give me 309 CHF. I came back and sent  one email about this to their customer service at 11.30 AM as shown below.


3. At 15.57 I got reply from Digitec that they have forward my email to correct person and I will get reply soon.

4. At 17.40 I got the email from Digitec as shown below.

By reading line "we may take back the bought camera for a credit that may be used for buying a new one." I thought they are ready for full refund of 309 CHF and  I have send following email as reply

5.  At 9.15 AM of 17 June I got email from Digitec that they will forward my email to RMA compartment. as shown below. Do not know why they have done this.

And at 10.00 AM of same day I got email from Digitec saying that they send my camera to service center and I have to wait for 2-4 weeks as shown below

6.  So I was now confused which email from Digitec is true. So I send them reply as shown below


7.  Now I was confused whether I go to Digitec shop to pickup new camera or not. So I send one more email to Digitec all  email ids I have at 15.14 Hr

8.  I  got no reply from Digitec for my last email so I went  to  their shop at 6 PM and  they again told me that Digitec can give me only 250 CHF and not full refund , for the camera that I kept only a few hours with me.

9.  After my last visit to Digitec and talk with their support person at counter, I found that Digitec is selling digital camera from 5 mega pixel to 20 mega pixel but there support staff does not know how to differentiate photo of 3.2 mega pixel with 14 mega pixel. What person at Digitec do open photos in Microsoft photo viewer and check the quality of photo. This is quite wrong as photo viewer changes  the resolution of photo to screen size and it is quite difficult to check quality of photo now. So now I have send photo from my old camera and from the new to Digitec as attachment to them.  Further I have to cancel my trip to Legoland and now I though to wait for 2-4 weeks for proper reply from repair center.


10. On 21st June I got email from Digitec that they apologize and  will make the full refund as shown below.

11.  Right from the beginning I was saying that quality of this camera is not good and it may be defective and still Digitec write as "According to our shop, they were not aware that you returned the camera under warranty"   Strange that they cannot check their system and also the invoice that I showed them. So on 22nd June I have sent  reply to Digitec as shown below.


12.  For next two days no reply from Digitec  and this was too much for me so I asked Digitec to return my money to my post account and send me status of old camera.

13.  No reply in 10 days, so  I sent  one more email


14.  Got reply on 7th July that they have sent  my money back and they do not know status of camera.


15. But now instead of money ,  status of camera was important for me so I have send email as

16. On 13 July I got reply from Digitec that camera was defective.


17. On July 14 I described whole case as above to digitec and starting of that email is as shown below.


 18  On 20 July I got below reply from Digitec confirming that camera had defective CCD-chip

19. On same day I have given following reply to digitec.
20.  Now I finally created this blog and on 27th July, I have send following email to Digitec

21.  On 3rd August I got following reply for Digitec having compensation offer of 50 CHF


22. On same I asked digitec for thier ok to make this blog public

23. Digitec offered me 50 CHF more for not making blog public and further they requested to blacken out their name like mine one.

24.  I said them that I will blanked out their names also

25. Got digitec ok to make it public with blanken names etc.
